Teeth can become stained or darkened over a period of time due to a number of factors such as age, smoking, or drinking tea or red wine. If you are brushing and flossing twice a day, but still feel that your smile is not as bright as you would like, then our professional teeth whitening treatment may be of an interest to you
At Stonehaven Dental practice we only use dental products that are supported by extensive clinical studies and that we would be happy to use ourselves.
Home Whitening Treatment
Your first step when getting your teeth whitened is an initial consultation with your dentist to ensure you are dentally fit before we begin. If so, a dental impression is then taken and custom trays made from this impression so that your new trays fit your teeth precisely. This snug fit will ensure you achieve optimal results.

Am I a suitable candidate for whitening?
Some patients are not suitable for teeth whitening. If you suffer from severe gum disease or any other dental health problems, you will be advised against whitening products. Teeth whitening does not change the colour of crowns, veneers or fillings. Therefore, it is important to understand that if you decide to have teeth whitening you might also have to replace tooth-coloured dental restorations in order to colour match to the newly whitened teeth. We cannot offer teeth whitening to patients under 18 years of age, or to patients who are pregnant or breast feeding.
How much whiter will my teeth look?
The results are different for every patient and it also depends on the type of teeth whitening system used. Some people respond very well to teeth whitening and have dramatically whiter teeth as a result, whereas others may notice a more subtle result. Patients with heavily stained teeth tend to have more dramatic results than those with slightly discoloured teeth. Your (increase spacing) dentist will be able to advise you on the likely results following a consultation.
Finally, we will show you how to use your new whitening trays and gels and provide you with ‘instructions for use and aftercare’ information to take home. We advise that it usually takes seven to 10 days to see any noticeable effects of treatment and the level of whiteness you achieve will depend on your diet and the porosity of your teeth.
